Alex Morgan, one of the most decorated female footballers in US history, was left out of the national team’s squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This marks the first major international tournament without Morgan's participation since her debut for the team in 2010.

The list of 18 players was announced by head coach Emma Hayes. It includes ten players who participated in the 2023 World Cup.

However, Morgan’s name, a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, is missing from the list.

The 35-year-old Alex Morgan, who has played 224 matches and scored 123 goals for the national team, expressed her disappointment on social media: “I feel immense pride every time I wear the national team jersey, and I’m disappointed that I won’t have the opportunity to do so in Paris.”

Emma Hayes explained her decision, citing strong competition for a spot in the Olympic team: “The selection process was extremely competitive. Making the Olympic squad is both an honor and a privilege, and we selected those who are best prepared for this challenge.”

The average age of the US Olympic squad is 26.8 years, making it the youngest team since 2008.

The absence of Alex Morgan came as a surprise to many, but her contributions to football remain undeniable: the title of the most beautiful footballer, a successful writing career, and the status of one of the highest-paid female athletes.
