Alysha Newman is a Canadian pole vaulter who has participated in three Olympic Games.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Newman won a bronze medal, setting a Canadian national record with a jump of 4.85 m.
After her successful jump, she celebrated her achievement by performing a twerk-style dance right on the stadium. This moment caught the attention of the public and the media.
Following two unsuccessful performances at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she placed 17th in the qualification round with a result of 4.45 m and did not advance to the final, and the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she also failed to qualify, she persevered and eventually secured the long-awaited medal at the 2024 Olympics.
Alysha Newman has also represented Team America five times and won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Newman is interested in the modeling industry, practices hot yoga, enjoys water sports, and loves going to the movies.
Alysha Newman, a Canadian athlete, was born on June 29, 1994, in London, Ontario. Until the age of 13, she practiced gymnastics, but a back injury ended her gymnastics career. After a year of recovery, Alysha began pursuing track and field.
In 2012, she made her debut at the Junior World Championships. Her first major victory came at the Pan American Junior Games in 2013. From 2016 to 2019, Newman became the Canadian champion four times.
