The Prosecutor's Office at Romania’s High Court of Cassation and Justice has initiated the arrest of 21 individuals accused of attempting to undermine the constitutional order, as reported by Romania Insider.

Among the suspects are businessman Horațiu Potra, his son, and his brother. However, their whereabouts remain unknown, and it is presumed that they have left the country.

On February 26, as part of the investigation, 47 searches were conducted in several regions of the country, including Sibiu, Mureș, Timiș, Ilfov, and Cluj. The main goal of the operation was to identify the suspects' connections and material assets. As a result, 18 people were arrested.

Investigators discovered a large arsenal of weapons, including automatic rifles, grenades, launchers, and ammunition. Additionally, they seized $3.3 million in cash, 700,000 Romanian lei, and 24 kg of gold, some of which was hidden under the floor.

The investigation links the detainees to far-right politician Călin Georgescu, who is under judicial supervision. He is accused of attempting to overthrow the government, spreading false information, and concealing funding sources.

It should be recalled that a criminal investigation has been launched in Romania against the far-right pro-Russian politician Călin Georgescu, who participated in the canceled presidential elections, as reported by Reuters.

On Wednesday, the Prosecutor's Office announced suspicions related to promoting anti-Semitism, creating an extremist organization, and spreading false information.

The elections, initially scheduled for December 2024, were annulled due to suspicions of Russian interference, which Georgescu actively denied. After several hours of questioning, the politician was placed under judicial control for 60 days.

Georgescu himself called the charges politically motivated and compared the authorities' actions to communist-era methods. Around 100 of his supporters gathered outside the Prosecutor’s Office in Bucharest, chanting slogans about national unity.

Earlier, it was reported that a scandal broke out in the Romanian elections: authorities confiscated $7 million from Bogdan Peștir, who financed the promotion of a pro-Russian candidate on TikTok, with investigators questioning the origin of the funds.

It has also been revealed that Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced that he will leave office on February 12. He made this decision amid parliamentary attempts to remove him, aiming to prevent a political crisis.
