The Pentagon is deploying a Stryker combat brigade and an aviation battalion to the U.S. southwestern border to enhance border security with Mexico.
This was announced by Pentagon Press Secretary Sean Parnell, who stated that this measure is being implemented as part of President Donald Trump’s policy to strengthen national security.
The Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) consists of approximately 4,400 military personnel equipped with Stryker armored vehicles, which provide a balance between mobility, protection, and firepower.
Thanks to their ability to rapidly redeploy via C-130 transport aircraft, these units can quickly respond to any threats.
Complementing the ground forces is the General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), consisting of approximately 650 personnel. It is equipped with UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters for command and medical missions, as well as CH-47 Chinook helicopters for heavy transport.
This significantly enhances the coordination and operational support capabilities in the complex border terrain.
According to Parnell, the troops will arrive in the coming weeks and will work closely with the Department of Homeland Security.
Since the beginning of the year, the White House has already deployed 1,600 military personnel to the border, joining the 2,500 reservists who had been mobilized earlier.
The Pentagon chief emphasized that if necessary, additional resources and personnel will be deployed.
Earlier, it was reported that the Pentagon is reviewing its nuclear strategy, adapting the armed forces to the growing competition with China and Russia, as well as planning to modernize its arsenal and strengthen partnerships.
