President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at Lancaster House, where an international security summit is taking place.
He was welcomed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with whom the Ukrainian leader had a brief conversation before the start of the event.
The summit is attended by European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The main topic of discussion is strengthening Europe's security in light of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
One of the key outcomes was the signing of a loan agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom. According to the agreement, the provided funds will be used to strengthen Ukraine’s defense, while the loan will be repaid using proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
Thus, according to Zelensky, "the one who started the war must pay for it."
During his speech, the Ukrainian president emphasized the importance of British support since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
He expressed gratitude to the UK government and people for their consistent assistance and highlighted that London remains one of Ukraine’s key strategic partners.
The summit is being held under heightened security measures. In addition to state leaders, representatives of NATO and other international organizations are also participating.
