U.S. President Donald Trump is willing to reconsider the suspension of military aid to Ukraine if the conflicting sides agree to hold peace talks and implement confidence-building measures.
This was stated by White House National Security Advisor Michael Waltz in an interview with Fox & Friends, as reported by Reuters.
According to him, potential dates and locations for negotiations are being discussed, along with the composition of delegations that could lead to a partial and then complete cessation of hostilities.
Waltz said that a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, sent to Trump, was a "positive first step" in this direction.
"We need to ensure that both sides are ready for sincere dialogue. If negotiations begin, the president will consider lifting the pause on aid," the advisor noted.
However, he did not specify what exact confidence-building measures would be implemented but emphasized that the U.S. is prepared to offer mechanisms to monitor Russia’s fulfillment of its commitments.
Earlier, Donald Trump ordered to freeze all military aid to Ukraine, including equipment in transit and storage facilities.
The U.S. had planned to deliver $3.85 billion worth of weaponry to Kyiv, but these shipments are now on hold.
According to media reports, the Trump administration wants to reassess its support to ensure it contributes to ending the war.
