On Thursday morning, during a military exercise in the South Korean city of Pocheon, two KF-16 Air Force fighter jets accidentally dropped eight bombs outside the training ground, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
As a result of the incident, seven people were injured, including two who sustained serious injuries such as fractures.
Around 10:00 a.m., one of the bombs fell on a road near a residential house, causing destruction in the village. A church, six buildings, and a truck were damaged. All the injured individuals were conscious and were promptly taken to hospitals.
The military confirmed that the aircraft were engaged in live-fire exercises when, for unknown reasons, they each dropped four 227-kilogram MK-82 bombs.
The Air Force Command apologized to civilians, stating that an investigation has been launched under the leadership of Deputy Chief of Staff General Park Ki-wan.
It was also reported that on January 15, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested, with thousands of police officers deployed to his residence for the operation.
