Negotiations between the US and Ukraine took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, aiming to achieve a sustainable peace. The meeting was mediated by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and information about it has been published on the official website of the President of Ukraine.
Ukraine has agreed to the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, provided that Russia implements it simultaneously. Washington will notify Moscow that mutual steps are key to peaceful resolution.
The United States is also resuming military support for Kyiv, including intelligence sharing. Both sides discussed humanitarian measures: prisoner exchanges, the release of civilians, and the return of deported children.
Negotiating teams will start working on a long-term security agreement. Additionally, an agreement has been reached on the development of Ukraine’s mineral resources to strengthen the country's economy.
In his video address, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Ukrainian and American delegations met in Saudi Arabia to discuss pathways to a peaceful settlement.
Kyiv proposed three key points: halting air and sea strikes and a prisoner exchange. The US supported the initiative and proposed an additional 30-day comprehensive truce along the entire front line.
Ukraine agreed, but the final decision depends on Russia. Kyiv has declared its readiness for peace but awaits Moscow’s response.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated that Ukraine had agreed to a 30-day truce, as reported by CNN.
He expressed hope that Russia would also accept this proposal. According to him, negotiations with Moscow will take place in the coming days.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the decision now rests with the Kremlin.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that contacts between Russia and US representatives are possible in the coming days, according to Russian media.
Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on Moscow’s stance on the truce: "What matters to us is not a ceasefire that will allow Ukraine to rearm and be sent against our country again, but a long-term, sustainable peace based on addressing the root causes of the conflict," he said.
It has also become known that the White House is considering resuming aid to Ukraine if honest peace negotiations begin and steps are taken to build trust between the parties.
