Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he supports the proposal to cease hostilities in Ukraine but believes it should lead to long-term peace. He announced this while speaking with the media in the presence of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

According to Putin, the key issues remain security guarantees, control over agreement implementation, and Ukraine’s further actions.

In particular, he is interested in whether Kyiv will continue mobilization and arms supplies. Additionally, it is unclear who will oversee compliance with the ceasefire along the 2,000-km frontline.

The Russian president paid special attention to the situation in the Kursk region, where, according to him, Ukrainian troops are holding positions. He expressed doubt that a ceasefire would automatically lead to their withdrawal without a fight or surrender.

Putin also noted that this issue requires discussion with Western partners, including the United States, and did not rule out a possible conversation with Donald Trump.

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Stephen Witkoff, has arrived in Moscow for a meeting with Vladimir Putin.

The negotiations will take place on the evening of March 13 behind closed doors, according to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. The discussion topics have not been disclosed, but it is expected that the parties will address security issues and bilateral relations.

The meeting takes place amid tense international relations.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine accepted the US proposal for a 30-day truce but is awaiting a reciprocal step from Russia, whose decision now determines the final agreement.
