On Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney asked the Governor General to dissolve Parliament, officially launching the federal election campaign.

The new election date has been set for April 28. This move was widely expected following Carney’s recent victory in the Liberal Party leadership race.

In his statement, Carney emphasized that the upcoming elections will be among the most significant in the country’s history, calling on Canadians to actively shape their nation’s future.

The dissolution of Parliament ends the current session of the House of Commons and nullifies all pending legislative initiatives.

Political parties across the country have already begun engaging with voters and holding campaign events.

Carney will run in the Nepean riding, previously represented by Chandra Arya, whose candidacy was withdrawn by the Liberal Party.

According to the party’s social media page, Liberal Party leader Mark Carney will be the candidate in Nepean, Ottawa — where he lived, worked, and raised his family. The party believes Carney will help build a stronger Canada.

As a reminder, Mark Carney recently became the new Prime Minister of Canada, replacing Justin Trudeau after winning the Liberal leadership race.

He has taken a firm stance against U.S. pressure and pledged to protect Canada’s economy.
