In January and February 2025, officers from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) prevented six attempts to illegally export a large shipment of methamphetamine through Vancouver International Airport.

The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to 148.8 kg, with an estimated street value of 500,000 dollars.

In each case, the narcotics were hidden in suitcases belonging to passengers traveling abroad.

On January 18, CBSA officers discovered 35.7 kg of methamphetamine wrapped as gifts and hidden in two suitcases intended for shipment to Hong Kong.

Two weeks later, on January 31, another 28.5 kg of the substance was found packed in coffee bags.

On February 16, officers thwarted an attempt to smuggle 23.5 kg of methamphetamine hidden in towels soaked with vinegar and cayenne pepper—this shipment was headed to Australia.

Three days later, on February 19, officers detained three passengers carrying a total of 61.1 kg of methamphetamine: 16.4 kg and 19.2 kg were absorbed into clothing, while 25.5 kg was packed in vacuum-sealed bags with coffee and pepper, intended for New Zealand.

All six offenders were immediately arrested and handed over to the RCMP Federal Police in the Pacific Region.

Earlier, in one of Toronto’s pubs, an armed incident occurred in which 12 people were injured. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for three individuals believed to be involved in the shooting.
