Body of fourth U.S. soldier killed during training found in Lithuania
After several days of searching, the body of the last of four U.S. soldiers who drowned when an armored vehicle sank during military exercises near the Belarus border has been found in Lithuania.
The search for the U.S. service member who went missing during training in Pabradė has been concluded in Lithuania.
The body of the fourth soldier was found following a tragic incident in which an M88A2 Hercules armored vehicle sank in a swamp near the Belarusian border.
The training was conducted as part of an allied rotation involving more than a thousand U.S. troops.
The first three soldiers were found immediately, while the search for the last one lasted several days and involved more than 200 rescuers from Lithuania, the U.S., and Poland.
Lithuanian president Gitanas Nausėda offered condolences to the families of the deceased and thanked everyone involved in the operation.
Local residents raised over $70,000 in support of the soldiers’ families, highlighting the strong ties and solidarity between the nations.
