Tragedy on a Chinese highway: Xiaomi SU7 crashes into barrier, three dead
A Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicle operating in autopilot mode was involved in a fatal accident in Anhui Province. The company released a timeline of events and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

On March 29, 2025, at 10:44 PM, an accident involving a Xiaomi SU7 electric car occurred on the Deshang Expressway in Anhui Province. The incident was reported via the official account on Weibo.
The car was traveling in Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) mode at 116 km/h when the system detected an obstacle in a construction zone with diverted traffic. After issuing a warning, the driver took manual control, began braking, and turned the wheel. However, the car collided with a concrete barrier at a speed of 97 km/h.
Following the crash, the emergency call system was triggered, and rescue services and police were dispatched. The driver turned out not to be the vehicle owner.
Xiaomi announced the formation of an internal task force, submitted driving data to the police, and began communicating with the victims' families. The company has pledged transparency and full cooperation with the investigation.
The incident sparked a wave of criticism in China, with users questioning the reliability of the autopilot system and the cause of the vehicle fire. Shares of Xiaomi Corp (1810.HK) dropped by more than 5%.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union is introducing new standards for obtaining driver’s licenses: they will be issued in digital format, with standardized medical examinations. Teenagers will be allowed to drive from age 17, but stricter oversight will apply to new drivers.
