UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that globalisation in its usual form is over and the world has entered a new, more unstable era, according to The Sunday Telegraph.
Ahead of a key speech tomorrow, he emphasized that London is ready to “move faster and more decisively” to drive economic growth.
The move follows new US tariffs introduced by Donald Trump. UK exports to the US are now subject to a 10% duty, while foreign cars face a 25% tariff.
In response, the British government will unveil a package of measures — from approving the construction of a Universal Studios park in Milton Keynes to deregulating electric vehicle manufacturing.
Starmer pledged to “shelter British business from the storm” and strengthen the country’s industrial strategy to reduce reliance on external shocks.
Earlier, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva stated that the newly imposed US tariffs pose serious risks to the global economy, which is already slowing down.
She noted that such measures increase instability and uncertainty. The IMF urged the US and its partners to engage in dialogue and announced that an analysis of the tariffs’ impact will be published in the April World Economic Outlook report during the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings.
