Tragedy in the Dominican Republic: Nightclub Roof Collapses, Many Dead
After the collapse of the roof at Jet Set club, the death toll has reached 12, with 73 rescued. Authorities have mobilized dozens of agencies and declared a state of emergency.

On Thursday night, the roof collapsed at the Jet Set entertainment center in the capital district of the Dominican Republic, killing at least 12 people and rescuing another 73.
This was reported by retired General Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), at a special press conference.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing at the scene. Emergency services are involved in the response, including the National Police, Navy, Firefighters, Civil Defense, and the 911 system, as reported on 911.gob.do.
The operations are being coordinated jointly with the Ministry of Health, represented in person by Minister Dr. Víctor Atallah.
President Luis Abinader expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized that the authorities are monitoring the situation in real time. He noted that all structures are engaged in providing assistance.
Magistrate Yeni Berenice Reynoso, director of criminal prosecution, also visited the scene, along with senior police officials and representatives from the 911 system.
They inspected the progress of the rescue efforts and the work of medical personnel providing aid to the victims at more than 10 medical institutions in the capital.
The cause of the tragedy has not yet been determined. A technical investigation and evidence collection are ongoing.
It was also reported that during the Madrid half-marathon, a 38-year-old participant died of a heart attack, collapsing just meters from the finish line — despite emergency medical care, he could not be saved.
