On April 8, 2025, the U.S. government decided to raise tariffs on Chinese goods from 34% to 84%, citing the need for a “trade balance.”

In response to these actions — which China views as a serious violation of international trade rules and an infringement of its legitimate interests — the State Council of the PRC approved countermeasures.

Starting April 10 at 12:01 p.m. Beijing time, China is raising tariffs on American imports to the same level — 84%.

This was stated in the fifth official announcement by the Tariff Commission of the State Council of the PRC.

Chinese authorities emphasize that the decision was made in strict accordance with national laws and the principles of international law.

The remaining provisions of the previous announcement, published earlier, remain in effect.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated in a post that now is the perfect time to move business operations to the U.S. He noted that companies like Apple are already doing so at record pace.

According to him, relocating to the U.S. offers zero tariffs, almost instant electricity hookups, and no delays due to environmental regulations. The former president urged businesses not to wait and to act immediately.

It’s worth noting that Donald Trump announced a 10% tariff on all U.S. imports starting April 5. From April 9, nearly all goods will fall under the new measures, except for strategically important ones. The tariffs will remain in effect until the U.S. secures “fair trade.”
