On April 9, EU countries approved the European Commission’s proposal to introduce trade countermeasures against the United States in response to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration in March on European steel and aluminum imports. The information was published on the official website of the European Union.
Brussels called these measures unjustified and harmful to both the EU economy and global trade.
The EU tariffs will take effect on April 15, immediately after the completion of internal procedures and publication of the act. The new package includes tariffs on a range of US goods.
The European Union emphasized that it remains open to negotiations and is ready to suspend the measures if Washington agrees to a balanced and mutually beneficial solution.
The EU aims to reduce tensions and protect its economic interests.
Earlier it was reported that China imposed retaliatory tariffs on US goods after the United States raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 84%, further escalating trade tensions between the two countries.
It also became known that, starting April 9, Canada is responding to US tariffs by imposing 25% duties on certain categories of American automobiles, further intensifying the trade standoff between the two countries.
