Tourist helicopter crashes into Hudson River: at least four people dead
A tourist helicopter Bell 206 crashed into the Hudson River in New York City: the aircraft went down with six people on board, and rescuers pulled bodies from the water.
On April 10 at 3:15 p.m. local time, a tourist helicopter Bell 206 crashed into the Hudson River near the ventilation shaft of the Holland Tunnel.
According to NBC News, law enforcement officials from New York and New Jersey reported that there were six people on board, of whom at least four were confirmed dead.
The crash occurred near West Side Highway and Spring Street, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
Preliminary reports suggest the helicopter was heading south toward New Jersey when one of its blades detached, causing the aircraft to lose control and crash.
Fire department units, water police, and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched an investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
In January, it was reported that near the White House, close to Ronald Reagan Airport, a collision between a passenger plane operated by American Airlines and a military helicopter occurred, resulting in dozens of fatalities, including well-known figure skaters.
