Finland – On April 11, 2025, the Finnish Parliament (Eduskunta) unanimously supported a bill imposing a full ban on real estate purchases by Russian citizens.
According to reports, the initiative, introduced by the government, aims to strengthen the country’s national security.
Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen noted that the strong support in Parliament reflects Finland’s unity in the face of external threats. He emphasized that the decision sends a clear message: the country will not allow destabilization by foreign states.
The government will soon prepare a decree listing countries engaged in aggressive wars and posing a threat to Finland’s security.
Legislative tools are also being developed to enable the annulment of previously completed real estate transactions.
Last year, Finland also introduced temporary one-year measures restricting the entry of refugees and closed its land borders with Russia due to a rising influx of migrants. The Russian side has called these actions unfriendly.
