On April 14, a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council will take place in Luxembourg. One of the key topics will be the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the need to strengthen military support for Kyiv.
According to Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Ukraine has demonstrated its willingness to negotiate and desire for peace, while Russia continues to target civilian infrastructure, including children.
The minister emphasized that stronger sanctions are needed to push Moscow toward genuine negotiations and noted that Finland has made proposals for the EU’s 17th sanctions package.
In addition to the Ukrainian issue, foreign ministers will discuss the worsening situations in Gaza and Syria. The EU aims to achieve an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and adherence to humanitarian law.
Also on the agenda are the current situation in the Western Balkans, relations with Africa, and rising tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Before the meeting, an informal dinner with Western Balkan ministers is planned, followed by a high-level EU dialogue with representatives of the Palestinian administration.
It is worth noting that on April 16 in Warsaw, a meeting will take place between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, where the leaders will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation, and will discuss key EU policies and pressing global matters.
