US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Washington will withdraw from its mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine if no concrete progress is made in the coming days. He stated this on April 17 in Paris after talks with European partners.
According to him, the US does not intend to indefinitely support a format that yields no real results. "If it does not become clear in the coming days that a peace agreement is possible, we will end this effort," Rubio said.
He added that the United States is not willing to drag out the negotiation process for weeks or months if the parties are not ready for constructive dialogue.
This statement heightens concerns over the diplomatic prospects for ending the conflict.
Earlier it was reported that following successful talks in Paris, representatives of the US, Europe, and Ukraine decided to continue discussing the terms of a potential ceasefire, scheduling the next meeting in London to work out specific details of ending the hostilities.
