Vatican. Today, April 21, at 7:35 a.m. local time, Pope Francis passed away in the Vatican. As reported by Vatican News, the Pope died at the age of 88 in his residence, Casa Santa Marta, in the Vatican on Easter Monday.

The death of the pontiff was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church. According to the official statement, the Bishop of Rome departed this life with deep sorrow and sincere gratitude from the clergy and the faithful.

Pope Francis, who led the Catholic Church since 2013, was the first pontiff from Latin America and the first Jesuit to hold this office.

His papacy was marked by special attention to the poor, the defense of migrants’ rights, a commitment to interreligious dialogue, and reforms within the Church. The cardinal's statement highlights the Pope’s devotion to Gospel values, his courage in decision-making, and his love for every person, especially those in hardship.

Details about the farewell ceremony and funeral will be announced later.
