Rome's Security Management Center at the police headquarters was immediately activated following the official announcement of the Pope’s death. This information was published on the official website of the Italian State Police.

Under the supervision of the Rome police chief, all security forces have been mobilized: Carabinieri, the financial guard, fire services, and municipal police.

The main task is to coordinate actions amid the sharp increase in the number of pilgrims near St. Peter's Square.

Within minutes of the sad news, believers began gathering at the Vatican. In response, the police tightened perimeter control and increased patrols, including water patrols along the Tiber River.

Special attention is being paid to preventing street crimes and monitoring potential threats in areas with large crowds.

Security measures will remain in place around the clock until the day of the funeral, for which a separate security plan is being developed.

The Department of Public Security is also involved, coordinating efforts according to the instructions of the head of the Italian police.

It should be recalled that on April 21 at 7:35 a.m., Pope Francis passed away in his residence, Casa Santa Marta, in the Vatican. He was 88 years old. The news of his death was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell.

Francis led the Catholic Church since 2013, becoming the first Pope from Latin America and the first Jesuit in this role. His papacy was marked by advocacy for migrants' rights, support for the poor, and internal reforms within the Vatican.

Earlier, it was reported that the Italian football league decided to postpone all scheduled Serie A and Primavera matches due to the news of the Pope's death.
