On April 23, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a preliminary agreement with Russia on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. At a press conference at the White House, he noted that the key now is reaching an agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which has proven more difficult than expected.
According to Trump, progress is possible on both sides. However, earlier on the Truth Social network, he criticized Zelensky's statement about refusing to legally recognize the annexation of Crimea, calling such words harmful to the negotiation process.
Trump reminded that Crimea was "lost" under Obama and is not up for discussion. He warned Kyiv against continuing the war, emphasizing the risk of losing the entire country.
It should be recalled that on April 23, a second meeting of security advisors from countries supporting Ukraine took place in London. Ukraine was represented by Yermak, Sybiha, and Umerov. From the UK — Jonathan Powell, from France — Emmanuel Bonne, from Germany — Jens Plötner.
The meeting was held at the UK Foreign Office residence at the invitation of David Lammy. The topics discussed included progress towards peace, support for Trump’s initiatives, and Russian actions. They agreed to hold regular consultations.
Earlier it was reported that General Keith Kellogg proposed freezing the front line in Ukraine and dividing the country along the Dnipro River into zones of influence, which raised concern among Western partners who saw in this a threat to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and a strengthening of Russia’s position.
