SUV crashes into crowd at Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver, Canada: nine dead
Canada is shaken by tragedy: an SUV crashed into a crowd at the Lapu Lapu Festival, killing nine people and injuring many others. The driver has been detained.

Canada. On Saturday evening, April 26, 2025, a tragedy occurred in South Vancouver. Around 8:00 PM local time, a black SUV at high speed drove into a crowd of Lapu Lapu Festival participants at the intersection of East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street. This was reported by CP24.
According to Vancouver Police, nine people died at the scene and several others were injured. The driver, a 30-year-old local resident, was detained immediately after the incident, stopped by people at the scene.
Eyewitnesses present at the festival said they heard the sudden revving of an engine and then saw the vehicle plow into the crowd, according to AP News.
Acting Police Chief Steve Rai stated that the suspect was previously known to the police, but it is too early to discuss motives.
The Lapu Lapu Festival is held in honor of a Filipino national hero and was officially recognized in British Columbia two years ago. The event is intended to symbolize the unity of cultural communities.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and the injured. British Columbia Premier David Eby and federal leaders of Canada also offered their support.
The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver expressed condolences to the victims and their families.
