U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order tightening English language requirements for all commercial drivers in the country. The information was published on the White House website.
The order, issued on April 29, 2025, aims to improve road safety and working conditions for American truckers.
According to the order, English proficiency will now be strictly assessed: drivers must be able to read road signs and communicate with police officers, customs agents, and weigh station personnel.
Violation of this requirement will lead to the immediate suspension of the driver from duty.
The U.S. Department of Transportation must, within 60 days, revoke previous lenient guidelines and implement new, stricter inspection procedures.
The department will also strengthen control over the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses, especially for foreign nationals.
Trump stated that these measures are intended to protect lives and support a key sector of the economy — freight transportation.
Earlier it was reported that Donald Trump introduced a new “golden card” — a $5 million visa that grants its holders more rights and privileges than a traditional green card.
