On Monday, June 2, the ship "Madeleine" will depart from the Sicilian port of Catania—a new vessel of the Freedom Flotilla coalition that aims to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. This information was published on the Freedom Flotilla Coalition's page on X.
On board are humanitarian supplies and a group of well-known activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, actor Liam Cunningham, and Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan.
This is the second attempt by the flotilla in the past month. The first ended in failure—on May 2, the ship "Conscience" was reportedly attacked by drones off the coast of Malta. The organizers accuse Israel of the attack.
The participants in the new mission state that their goal is not only to deliver aid but also to draw attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. "This is a protest against the blockade and the ongoing genocide," said Hassan.
Although Israel has partially eased the blockade, international organizations report that aid is reaching the area in minimal amounts, and the situation in the sector is critical. According to WHO, a quarter of Gaza’s population is starving.
Earlier, it was reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the UK, France, and Canada of effectively supporting Hamas by calling for a ceasefire. According to him, such statements undermine counterterrorism efforts and only encourage further attacks and casualties.
It was also reported that Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the Israeli army would take full control of the entire Gaza Strip, despite ongoing humanitarian aid deliveries. He stated that establishing control is only a matter of time, and Israel will not stop until the entire territory is under its authority.
