USA, Minnesota, June 14. Early Saturday morning, synchronized attacks took place at the homes of two Democratic lawmakers in the state.
In Brooklyn Park, a shooter posing as a police officer killed Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.
Minutes later in nearby Champlin, Senator John Hoffman was seriously wounded, and his wife Yvette was also injured. Both underwent surgery and are expected to survive, according to doctors.
Governor Tim Walz called the incident “a deliberate act of political violence” and requested assistance from federal agencies.
Police declared a shelter-in-place within a three-mile radius and are searching for an armed man impersonating an officer.
Investigators are examining threats received by the lawmakers and reviewing surveillance footage. Politicians from both parties expressed shock and are calling for stronger security measures.
