HUNGARY. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made strong statements opposing Ukraine's accession to the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) from June 24 to 27, the politician warned that such steps pose a direct threat to peace in Europe.

Orban stated that Ukraine joining NATO would mean "war with Russia and World War III the very next day."

He described the EU’s current policy of accelerating Ukraine's integration as "madness" and metaphorically compared it to "throwing matches onto a powder keg."

On June 27, Orban wrote that more than two million Hungarians had expressed their opposition to Ukraine's EU membership, and that voice cannot be ignored. According to him, Ukraine’s accession would destroy the very foundation of European integration.

On June 24, Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with EU and NATO leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, where he called for unity and the opening of EU accession negotiations for Ukraine.

Zelensky noted that blocking the process by a single country is unfair.
