Starting from July 7, Poland will temporarily reinstate border controls with Germany and Lithuania. This was announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk following a morning meeting with the defense minister and border guard officials.
According to him, the decision was made due to security concerns and will be formally implemented by Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak.
Tusk noted that he had repeatedly warned the German side and personally discussed the situation with the new German chancellor.
He also criticized the opposition for pressuring security services and cooperating with radical activists, including Robert Bąkiewicz, whose groups, according to the prime minister, obstruct the work of border guards.
Surveillance will be intensified in border areas. However, the ruling coalition acknowledges that there is currently no confirmed evidence of a mass influx of migrants — it may be speculation.
