The US must be sure that its army is ready for any challenge — this is how Matthew Whitaker explained the decision to temporarily halt the supply of some weapons to Ukraine.
In an interview with Fox Business, the US Ambassador to NATO noted that the Pentagon regularly checks whether the country has enough Patriot missiles, air defense systems, and ammunition to ensure the security of the United States itself.
“First, we look at ourselves — our needs and strategic resilience,” Whitaker said.
He also recalled that the US recently carried out strikes on targets in Iran using B-2 strategic bombers and precision bombs — an example of the power Washington must always possess.
According to him, allies respect the US precisely for such readiness and strength. And President Donald Trump, as the diplomat noted, follows the same logic: first, NATO must be strengthened from within and ensure that all members are fully equipped for defense.
It was previously reported that the US temporarily froze missile and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine, citing the need to ensure the sufficiency of its own military reserves. Washington noted that the priority is national security, and the strength of the US military must remain flawless.
