UNITED KINGDOM — The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge 32-year-old Thomas Partey of Hertfordshire.

The footballer has been issued a requisition for five counts of rape and one of sexual assault. Two rapes relate to one woman, three to another; the assault to a third.

Investigators believe the crimes occurred between 2021 and 2022, with the investigation launched in February 2022 after the first report.

The charges are based on evidence gathered by detectives.

Superintendent Andy Furphy emphasized that supporting the victims remains the priority and urged witnesses to contact detectives via [email protected].

Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. A 24/7 support line is available for victims.

Thomas Partey was born in Ghana and began his career at local club Odometah.

In 2011, he signed with Atlético Madrid and initially played for the reserve team. He later went on loan to Mallorca and Almería, where he had full seasons and scored key goals.

Partey debuted for Atlético’s main squad in 2015 and transferred to Arsenal in 2020 for €50 million.

Earlier, Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota and his brother died in a fatal car crash in Spain — their vehicle caught fire after the accident, and they were unable to escape before emergency crews arrived.
