Vasyl Lomachenko, a well-known Ukrainian boxer, has officially set the date for his next championship fight. He will meet Australian George Kambosos in the ring on May 12 this year in Perth, Australia.

The competition will take place at the RAC Arena, where the boxers will fight for the vacant championship belt of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the lightweight category.

This title became vacant after Devin Haney, an American boxer, moved to another weight category. Haney became the absolute world champion in the lightweight category after two victories over Kambosos in 2022, as well as a victory over Lomachenko in May of the same year and winning the WBC title in the first junior welterweight category in December.

Lomachenko, who controlled several championship belts (WBA, WBO, The Ring, WBC) from 2018 to 2020, lost all his titles in October 2020, conceding to the American Lopez.

Since then, the Ukrainian has won three fights against Nakatani, Commey, and Ortiz.

George Kambosos, a native of Sydney, played rugby and boxed in his childhood, and in his teenage years, he focused on boxing. He debuted at the professional level in 2013 and controlled the championship belts WBA, IBF, and WBO in the lightweight division in 2021-2022.

After two defeats by Haney, Kambosos lost all his titles, but in the summer of 2023, he defeated the Briton Mikey Hughes and became the champion according to the IBO version.

Kambosos is known for his fighting skills, which he honed during training in the Manny Pacquiao camp.

Malignaggi: Lomachenko will crush Kambosos in the battle for the IBF title

Former professional boxer and world champion Paul Malignaggi made a prediction regarding the upcoming fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos, which will take place on May 12 in Perth, Australia, for the vacant IBF title in the lightweight category.

Malignaggi is confident that Lomachenko will dominate in this fight so much so that Kambosos will not be able to win a single round.

He also suggested that after this fight, Kambosos may consider retiring, noting that the Australian has already achieved significant success in his career, especially after the victory over Teofimo Lopez.
