Marcello Gandini, an outstanding Italian automotive designer, has died in Italy at the age of 86, as reported by Rai News.
Gandini was recognized as one of the greatest masters of automotive design, whose innovations and talent left an indelible mark on history.
At the age of 27, he headed the design department at Bertone and soon announced his first iconic creation — the Lamborghini Miura coupe.
Gandini pioneered the creation of unique "scissor" doors, first introduced on the Alfa Romeo Carabo and then applied to the Lamborghini Countach and Diablo.
His work spans a wide range of vehicles from Lamborghini supercars, Lancia Stratos, Bugatti EB110, Ferrari Dino GT4, to the Renault Magnum truck and mass models like the first-generation BMW 5 Series.
Gandini is known for his style of creating vehicles with faceted design and wedge-shaped silhouette, thanks to which his projects have become icons of the automotive industry.
It was previously reported that Opel is preparing to release two new electric crossovers, Frontera and Grandland, promising a range of up to 700 km on a single charge. The updated crossover lineup is expected to be introduced by the end of the current year.
