The official gala portrait of the King and Queen of Denmark with historical regalia has been released
In Denmark, an official gala portrait of the new monarchs adorned with historical regalia was published
After ascending to the throne on January 14, 2024, the first official gala portrait of King Frederik X and Queen Maria of Denmark was presented.
The portrait, taken by photographer Stine Ewald in the Green Room of the Royal Reception Halls at Christiansborg Palace, shows the monarchs in ceremonial attire with the Orders of the Elephant and Dannebrog.
It can now be seen in state institutions, including Danish embassies and consulates around the world, as well as on ships under the Danish flag.
In the portrait, the King wears historical items belonging to his predecessors for the first time, including the "Mother of the Elephant" — an order created in 1671 for the coronation of Christian V, as well as the star of the Order of the Elephant, made around 1770 for Frederick VI. These regalia, along with other insignia (external symbols of power), are usually kept in the Treasury of Rosenborg Castle.
The Queen is portrayed for the first time with royal jewels, including an emerald set with a tiara, necklace, earrings, and a large brooch. On her chest, she sports a miniature portrait of the King, created by British artist Tom Mulliner and adorned with diamonds, in a frame of historical significance.
