The National Bank of Ukraine introduced new banknotes with a patriotic slogan for the 33rd anniversary of Independence
Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of its Independence, and in honor of this, the National Bank has issued updated banknotes with denominations of 500 and 1000 hryvnias bearing the inscription "Слава Україні! Героям слава!".
On August 9, 2024, the National Bank of Ukraine announced the release of new banknotes with denominations of 500 and 1000 hryvnias, dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the country's Independence.
These banknotes are distinguished not only by their high level of security but also by an important symbolic element – a patriotic inscription "Слава Україні! Героям слава!" on them.
The decision to add this inscription to the new banknotes was made due to the special significance of these words for every citizen of Ukraine.
The Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyy, emphasized that the hryvnia is not just a means of payment but also an important symbol of the statehood and independence of the country.
According to him, in the face of the difficult challenges that the Ukrainian people are going through, it is important to emphasize the unbreakable spirit of the nation, and the new banknotes should reflect this resilience.
"State symbols are what each of us holds in our hands every day. Today, as Ukraine is going through one of the most pivotal moments in its history, we decided to immortalize this in our national currency. The slogan 'Слава Україні! Героям слава!' will now resonate not only in people's hearts but also on our money," said Pyshnyy.
The process of introducing the updated banknotes into circulation will be gradual.
As of August 8, banknotes with denominations of 500 and 1000 hryvnias have already begun to enter circulation. The next stage, starting from August 23, will be the release of updated 50-hryvnia banknotes.
In the following years, updates to other denominations – 20, 100, and 200 hryvnias – are expected.
The National Bank assured citizens that older banknotes will remain in circulation and will not need to be exchanged, as they will retain their legal validity.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the 1000-hryvnia banknote first appeared in circulation on October 25, 2017. On the front of this banknote is a depiction of the prominent Ukrainian philosopher Volodymyr Vernadsky, and on the back is the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences.
The banknote has high-tech security features, including a "windowed" security thread that changes its image when the angle of inclination changes, which significantly complicates counterfeiting.
The new design of Ukrainian banknotes not only meets modern security requirements but also carries deep symbolism that reflects the spirit and independence of the Ukrainian people.
