Ukrainian troops advance in Kursk region: successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a new front
The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue their offensive in the Kursk region, advancing to new positions, as confirmed by geolocation footage and reports from Russian bloggers.
On August 20, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continued active offensive operations in the Kursk region of Russia.
According to analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian drones successfully attacked Russian equipment transporting pontoons to a base near the Seim River, located approximately three kilometers north of Glushkovo.
Satellite images taken on August 19 confirm the destruction of one of the pontoon bridges across the Seim River, which became a significant success for Ukrainian forces.
Moreover, Russian military bloggers reported that the AFU captured the village of Vishnevka, located 14 kilometers from the international border, southwest of Korenovo. The Russian Ministry of Defense indirectly acknowledged this by reporting the advancement of Ukrainian forces in the area.
Additionally, the AFU managed to advance along the 38K-030 highway west of Korenovo, as well as through fields to the northeast of this settlement.
Russian military bloggers claim that Ukrainian forces continue mechanized attacks on the outskirts of Korenovo, despite active resistance from the Russian army.
Geolocation data from August 20 also indicates the AFU's advance in a wooded area north of Russkoye-Porichnoye.
On the same day, a Kremlin-linked military blogger reported that Ukrainian forces had reached the western outskirts of Russkaya Konopelka, located east of Sudzha.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced significant progress by Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region, which is under Russian control.
Speaking to Ukrainian diplomats, Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian forces control over 1,250 square kilometers of territory and 92 settlements in this region.
According to the president, the operation of the Ukrainian army has strategic importance and is aimed at ensuring security.
Zelensky also noted that one of the main goals of the operation is the liberation of Ukrainian citizens held in Russian captivity. He added that during the operation, a significant number of Russian soldiers were captured.
