Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv on Friday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This visit marks the first time in the history of independent Ukraine that an Indian leader has visited the country, and it comes against the backdrop of Russian aggression.

Modi’s visit comes a few weeks after his trip to Moscow, where he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

These talks were criticized by Kyiv, which is concerned about India's support for Moscow.

Despite numerous calls for a ceasefire, India refrains from condemning Russian aggression, seeking to maintain a balance in its relations with Moscow.

India also continues to purchase Russian oil despite international sanctions, making it an important economic ally for Russia.

Modi's arrival in Kyiv takes place on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day, adding special symbolism to his visit. Before this, the Indian leader visited Poland, where he expressed support for peaceful conflict resolution, including in Ukraine.

At this moment, Narendra Modi has already met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II.

Zelensky also noted in his Telegram message that together with the Prime Minister of India, he honored the memory of children who died as a result of Russian aggression, stating that the safety of children should be a priority for every country.

In Kyiv, Modi plans to discuss bilateral relations with Zelensky, including trade, infrastructure, and defense.

This visit coincides with an important stage of the war, as Ukrainian troops are advancing on Russian territories in the Kursk region.
