New Zealand introduces a sharp increase in visa fees and tourist tax from October 1, 2024
New Zealand is increasing visa fees and the tourist tax from October 1, 2024, which will affect most international travelers.

Starting from October 1, 2024, new changes in the visa fees and tourist taxes system will come into effect in New Zealand, according to the New Zealand Immigration Service.
The government has announced an increase in visa processing fees and a rise in the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).
These measures were officially announced on August 9 and September 3, 2024, with the main goal being to redistribute costs to maintain the immigration system and improve the tourism infrastructure.
The changes affect both visa fees and the IVL, which is charged to most international visitors, including those obtaining a visa or an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority).
The cost of the IVL will increase from the current 35 to 100 New Zealand dollars per person.
The new levy will apply to all types of visas, including student, work, and tourist categories. Only partner and dependent categories will be exempt from it.
The government notes that these changes are aimed at supporting sustainable tourism development and protecting New Zealand's natural resources.
The funds collected through the IVL are used to implement projects to protect the country's unique natural heritage, as well as to improve the tourist infrastructure, which receives millions of guests annually.
In addition, starting from October 1, 2024, visa fees for foreign citizens will be increased. These measures will help cover the costs of processing applications and maintaining the safety and integrity of the country's borders.
It is important to note that most tourists from visa-free countries are not required to pay visa fees, but they will also be affected by the IVL increase.
It was earlier revealed that scientists in New Zealand discovered a new species of dolphin with unique curved teeth that lived on Earth about 22-23 million years ago.
