Patrushev spoke about "certain forces" that helped Trump win the election
Nikolai Patrushev stated that Trump’s victory is linked to voters’ rejection of Biden’s policies, but fulfilling his promises could become a challenge.
The Russian presidential aide and Chairman of the Maritime Board, Nikolai Patrushev, stated in an interview with Russian media that the elected U.S. President Donald Trump attracted supporters who voted against the domestic and foreign policies of the current administration.
However, he noted that the promises made during the election campaign might differ from the actions taken in office.
Patrushev highlighted that Trump relied on "certain forces" whose support would now require the new U.S. president to fulfill specific obligations. At the same time, Patrushev did not specify which "certain forces" he was talking about.
"It is well known that in the U.S., campaign promises often do not align with real actions after elections," he said.
The politician also mentioned that the elected president would take office in January 2025, at which point it will be time to back up stated intentions with actions. According to Patrushev, Republicans take a pragmatic approach, but the future of American politics remains unpredictable.
To recap, the 60th U.S. presidential election took place on November 5, 2024. Donald Trump, representing the Republican Party, secured 312 electoral votes, significantly exceeding the required 270.
His opponent, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, received 226 votes. The following day, Harris called Trump to concede defeat and congratulate him on his victory.
James David Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, will assume the role of Vice President.
Earlier reports revealed that U.S. Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance outlined key elements of Donald Trump’s "peace plan" for resolving the situation in Ukraine, which includes establishing a demilitarized zone and Ukraine’s renunciation of NATO membership in exchange for guarantees of its independence.
It also became known that Donald Trump intends to review the U.S. role in NATO, calling on Europe to increase defense spending and reform the alliance, warning of potential reductions in U.S. involvement.
