In the Baltic Sea, a Russian ship fired signal ammunition at a Bundeswehr helicopter conducting a reconnaissance mission, according to a report by Euronews.
The incident, which occurred during a NATO meeting in Brussels, was announced by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. While details remain undisclosed, the event has caused significant concern within the alliance.
Baerbock emphasized that hybrid threats from Russia and its supporters are becoming increasingly tangible, especially following recent damage to underwater communications in the region.
NATO plans to bolster surveillance of key assets, including pipelines and data transmission cables.
Earlier reports revealed that the fiber optic cable C-Lion1, connecting Finland and Germany along the Nord Stream pipeline route, was damaged. While the causes are still unknown, the incident could have widespread implications for international communications.
Additionally, it has been reported that the FDP party is urging the German government to expedite military assistance to Ukraine, including the delivery of Taurus missiles, to strengthen its defense against Russian aggression.
