Massive border measures in Canada following Trump’s statement that the country should become the 51st state of the USA

Donald Trump has once again proposed the idea of annexing Canada to the United States, claiming that it would bring economic benefits to both nations, despite Canadian opinion.

President-elect Donald Trump has reiterated the possibility of Canada joining the United States. On his social media platform Truth Social, he claimed that many Canadians supposedly support the idea of becoming the 51st state.

According to Trump, this would allow Canada to reduce its tax and defense spending, while the United States would save on annual financial aid, which, he stated, exceeds $100 million.

“Why are we subsidizing Canada? It doesn’t make sense! Many Canadians want to be part of the USA. It’s a great idea — the 51st state!” he wrote.

However, recent polls indicate the opposite: 86% of Canadians are against joining the United States. Experts believe Trump’s statements are aimed at a domestic audience and lack any real basis for discussion.

The idea of incorporating Canada into the United States is not new for Trump. He has previously suggested increasing tariffs on Canada and Mexico if the countries fail to address illegal immigration issues.

In response to his comments, Canadian politicians have emphasized that such statements do not reflect the actual state of bilateral relations.

Despite Trump’s bold claims, experts are confident that his idea is unlikely to gain support among Canadians or Americans.

Meanwhile, Canada has announced the implementation of large-scale measures to enhance security along its border with the United States, according to the Canadian Ministry of Public Safety.

Under a new plan introduced by Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, the federal government will allocate $1.3 billion to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration.

The measures include the creation of a joint task force with the United States, the use of drones, helicopters, and mobile towers for aerial monitoring, as well as new tools for law enforcement agencies.

Additionally, Canada will train new canine teams for drug detection and enhance controls at high-risk checkpoints.

The announcement is a response to Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods if the country does not take steps to strengthen border security.

The initiatives are aimed at stopping the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigration, aligning with the demands publicly made by Trump.

Earlier, it was reported that Canada is revising its immigration policy and reducing its targets for accepting new immigrants for 2025–2027, focusing on population control and improving infrastructure, including measures to support temporary and permanent residents.

It was also announced that on Human Rights Day, Canada imposed new sanctions against Russian officials and personnel accused of involvement in the torture of Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war, intensifying pressure on Moscow.
