Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, announced preparations for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by Reuters.

According to him, both sides are interested in direct negotiations, but no specific dates have been announced yet. Trump's statement was made on January 9 during a meeting with Republican governors in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

“President Putin wants to meet. He has said this publicly. We need to end this war; it is a bloody disaster,” Trump remarked, commenting on the current situation in Ukraine.

His statement sparked strong reactions in international circles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that the new U.S. administration could influence the outcome of the 34-month-long war.

However, concerns in Kyiv remain that a potential peace agreement could come at a high cost for Ukraine, including possible territorial concessions.

Trump's advisors are already discussing options to end the conflict, including proposals that suggest ceding parts of Ukrainian territory to Russian control.

Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that no preliminary conditions are required for a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, as reported by Russian media.

The Kremlin welcomes Trump's willingness for dialogue but noted that there are no concrete plans yet. Peskov emphasized that further steps would be possible after Trump's inauguration and the demonstration of mutual political will.

Moscow remains open to cooperation to resolve international issues through leader-to-leader communication.

Earlier reports indicated that Nikolai Patrushev stated that Donald Trump's victory in the elections was ensured by voters' rejection of Joe Biden's policies. However, the new president's ability to fulfill campaign promises may face significant challenges.

It was also reported that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized the need for close cooperation between countries to ensure collective security.
