Putin and Trump Agree to Start Ukraine Negotiations
Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, discussing the war in Ukraine, geopolitics, and the possibility of working together to end the conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a prolonged phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, sharing the news on his social media.
According to Trump, the discussion was productive: the two leaders covered the war in Ukraine, the Middle East situation, energy, artificial intelligence, and the influence of the U.S. dollar.
Both politicians acknowledged the historical ties between the U.S. and Russia, recalling their alliance in World War II. The central topic was the Ukrainian conflict.
Trump stated that he and Putin agreed that "millions of deaths must be stopped" and initiated the negotiation process.
Trump announced that he would call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to inform him of the agreements.
He also appointed key U.S. representatives for the negotiations, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump expressed confidence that this dialogue would lead to an end to the war.
Additionally, the former U.S. president thanked Putin for the release of American citizen Marc Fogel. He voiced his belief that the ongoing dialogue would result in a "successful resolution" of the conflict.
Russian media reported that Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone conversation discussing the organization of an in-person meeting. The call was initiated by one of the parties.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the leaders intend to maintain contact. A meeting may take place soon, though the date and location have not yet been disclosed.
The main objective is to discuss key issues on the international agenda.
Earlier, it was reported that starting March 12, 2025, the U.S. will impose a 25% tariff on steel imports from Canada, the EU, Mexico, Ukraine, and other countries, citing national security concerns.
It was also revealed that Donald Trump imposed sanctions against officials of the International Criminal Court, accusing it of undermining U.S. and Israeli sovereignty after issuing an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
